History of Jharkhand Districts
On 2nd August 2000, the state of Jharkhand was officially established when the parliament passed the Bihar Reorganization Bill. There were initially 18 districts in Jharkhand but the number of districts increased from 18 to 24. On 4th April 2001, the Latehar district was established. Before that, it was a subdivision of the Palamu district. On 30th April 2001, the Gumla district gave way to the Simdega district.
